SUNNYBANK DIG DEEP FOR CANCER COUNCIL
Players, supporters and opposition all rally to raise money for Cancer Council
DISPLAYING a united front in the fight against cancer, players, supporters and rivals of the Souths Sunnybank Rugby League Football Club (SSRLFC) raised more than $1000 for the Cancer Council through the club’s Call To Arms fixture over the July 24-25 weekend.
From gold coin donations, to generous hundred-dollar offerings; proceeds collected from the club’s website and weekend matches will be used to support various Cancer Council projects specific to men’s cancer, including research and treatment, along with vital prevention, detection and awareness programs.
SSRLFC Junior Secretary Jody Taylor said the club was proud of the support shown by the local sporting fraternity.
“It’s terrific that the community rallied around the initiative and we are glad to be able to make a contribution to a worthy cause in the Cancer Council,” Taylor said.
“With cancer affecting so many Australians, the SSRLFC is honoured to be involved with Call To Arms to raise cancer awareness and funds to benefit those diagnosed with the disease, their friends and families,” she said.
The SSRLFC would like to participate in Call To Arms again in July 2011.
