'DETERMINED' REDCLIFFE READY FOR FINAL

ARL Development Shield final this Saturday, July 31

THE Redcliffe Dolphins Under 15s are gearing up to take on Runaway Bay in the ARL Development Shield final this Saturday.

The Dolphins earned their spot in the final after they defeated Norths Devils in their semi-final match 24-20.

“It was a tough game against Norths – we were down 12-0 after the first 10 minutes, but we came back and we scored two tries in the last 10 minutes to come back and win,” Dolphins coach Peter Tonkin said.

“We actually scored the last try in the last 90 seconds – so it was a close game.”

Tonkin said the team had enjoyed playing in the competition throughout the season and team has shown determination to get through to the final.

“They have really enjoyed it,” Tonkin said. “It is a good highlight for the team to part of a state-wide competition.

“I think our defence on our own line has been brilliant – we have good scrambling defence and our attack has a good variety,” Tonkin said.

“I have not coached a team like this before for their age, they are so determined and they can stick to it for the full 60 minutes. They have shown great fortitude to get where they are.”

The game will be played at 4pm on Saturday, July 31 at Pizzey Park after the conclusion of the Intrust Super Cup game between the Redcliffe Dolphins and the Burleigh Bears.
